The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice them have a good understanding. Their praise endures forever.
Today, fear is used to whip us into a frenzy, make us feel cornered, and ready us to fight against monsters.
Fear grabs our attention and focuses our energies.
All too often, we're told what to fear by those with power, and how to alleviate it by those same voices. Fear and hate are synonymous to these people.
Yet, are we really meant to see God as a threat? Is that truly where wisdom comes from?
In the Psalm, fear actually means reverence - awe and inspiration. And yes, the vastness of God can feel threatening.
But, that’s the start of wisdom. To realize we’re one small part in a big universe. And, as one small part, we matter.
Today, reflect for a moment on the parts you play in making the world turn.
How will you practice the awe and wonder of God’s vastness in ways that show how those around you matter?
