Sing to the Lord a new song, their praise from the end of the earth! Let the sea roar and all that fills it, the coastlands and their inhabitants. Let the desert and its towns lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar inhabits; let the inhabitants of Sela shout for joy; let them shout from the tops of the mountains. Let them give glory to God and declare their praise in the coastlands.
Before Greek culture influenced our ancestors, there was no separation between body and soul.
For the prophet Isaiah, the work of justice was connected to joy, and with that, a bodily response.
Both joy and justice are to be experienced in the flesh: we eat, we cover our bodies, we sing, we dance, we clap.
It seems to me we have forgotten that our faith is one to be lived out and lived in.
Isaiah 42 reminds us of what it means to experience and build justice. And, a big part of it is to make music and shout for joy.
Whenever we experience joy, a crack in the wall that separates us from the kin-dom, justice appears.
Sometimes we create joy, sometimes we witness it.
How do you want to tune yourself into the possibilities of joy today?
