2.8.24 - Mark 3:22
What do you think holds us back from advocating for justice? How might you work to change the narrative of Jesus in your community and life?
“And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, ‘He has Beelzebul, and by the ruler of the demons he casts out demons.’”
This week, I was talking with a teen who had testified about their lived experience going through foster care for some legislation in Colorado.
They had a terrible experience with adult legislators questioning and undermining their lives. They finished their story by saying, “But what can you do? That is just what Christians believe.”
And they didn’t have any voices to tell them differently.
Their story reminded me of this passage where people are misrepresenting Jesus and his ministry, and he says, “No. Not in my name.” He could not allow the religious leaders to mis it represent him any longer.
We need to more loudly proclaim that harm, power, and control is not “just what Christians believe.”
That is misrepresenting Jesus. We need to interrupt our national narrative as followers of Jesus who speak up for justice and against power and oppression.
What do you think holds us back from advocating for justice? How might you work to change the narrative of Jesus in your community and life?
