Sing to the Lord a new song, their praise from the end of the earth! Let the sea roar and all that fills it, the coastlands and their inhabitants. Let the desert and its towns lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar inhabits; let the inhabitants of Sela shout for joy; let them shout from the tops of the mountains. Let them give glory to God and declare their praise in the coastlands.
Justice work is really important to me. If you ask me, I would even dare to say that it is my life’s call.
But justice work is not only about work. Justice and joy go hand in hand.
The purpose of justice is to give everyone the opportunity to live a life that flourishes so they can experience joy.
In this short passage, joy is a command.
It is part of the work of the servant of God, and it is as important as feeding the hungry and clothing the naked.
Joy, is necessary for this work. We find our strength for the journey ahead, we let our souls rest, and in delighting in God’s creation, we are reminded of why we do the work of justice.
It's easy for the work of justice to overshadow the joy of living. There always seems like so much to do.
As you look ahead at your day, how might you build in a moment to open yourself to wonder and joy?
