2.5.24 - Jeremiah 9: 20&22
If you were to pause this moment, what psalm would you use to express your experience to God?
Hear, O women, the word of the Lord, and let your ears receive the word of his mouth; teach to your daughters a dirge and each to her neighbor a lament. Speak! Thus says the Lord: “Human corpses shall fall like dung upon the open field, like sheaves behind the reaper, and no one shall gather them.”
The images I am seeing on the news seem remarkably reminiscent of this passage. Sometimes I feel like I cannot not stop to allow myself to actually feel and process what I am witnessing because I do not know if I would be able to come out of the horror of it.
A friend sent me a post on social media this week that said, “I’ve reached the level of adulthood where I say, ‘Can’t be sad today, I have a lot of work.’”
However, much of scripture teaches us to stop, witness, and express our spirit to Spirit.
May this be a reminder to live counterculturally to the grind and demand for productivity. We are not created to push through but to live in connection.
Do you see beauty? Stop for praise.
Do you experience a bounty of connection? Stop for joy and celebration.
Are you overwhelmed by sorrow? Stop so that you may lament.
If you were to pause this moment, what psalm would you use to express your experience to God?
