2.27.24 - Mark 5:26-28
Just reach out and touch the hem. Trust that the small moment, grazing the fringe of a garment is enough. What's one small courageous thing you want to do today? How will you make it happen?
She had endured much under many physicians and had spent all that she had, and she was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, for she said, “If I but touch his cloak, I will be made well.”
Fearless Girl by Kristen Visbal is one of the most powerful statues I have seen.
Not just because it is a small girl facing an enraged, massive bull, but because of where it was located - in the place where the rights and dreams of many are sold as stock.
When I saw it first, I immediately thought of the nameless woman in this story. Jesus and all he represented (religion and power) must have been intimidating.
Yet, she dares to take care of business and seek healing because no one gave a damn about her health or her pain. How bold of this ancestor of ours?
But what I love about this story the most is not her, but the fact that Jesus acknowledges her courage and lets her be in charge of her own healing. May we trust women as Jesus did.
Just reach out and touch the hem. Trust that the small moment, grazing the fringe of a garment is enough. What's one small courageous thing you want to do today? How will you make it happen?
