2.23.24 - Mark 4:37-38
What is one thing you can do today to honor your body, mind, and soul? To honor the rest you need? Or if you’re well rested, what’s one way you can shift into action and honor someone else’s needs?
A violent windstorm came up. The waves were breaking into the boat so that it was quickly filling up. But he was sleeping on a cushion in the back of the boat.
So they woke him up and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to die?”
Who do you focus on when you read and reflect on these verses? Are you thinking about those in the boat with Jesus and their reaction, or are you thinking of Jesus sleeping at the back of the boat?
I used to zoom in on what the disciples were doing at the very moment the waves were rocking the boat. Now, I find myself thinking about Jesus and his rest.
After burning out, I think it’s easier to focus on Jesus sleeping. He constantly gave of himself and needed those times of rest.
As humans, we need moments to be with others, to pour into others, to be a part of the group. But we also need to fill up our own wells.
Rest is such an important part of our lives. Jesus knew and honored that.
What pains have left you feeling desolate, distrustful, afraid to soften enough to receive goodness? Where can you seek safety and healing? How can you hold others in their pain?
What is one thing you can do today to honor your body, mind, and soul? To honor the rest you need? Or if you’re well rested, what’s one way you can shift into action and honor someone else’s needs?

Today is a day to rest and be curious. I find being curious is one gift I can give myself that rejuvenates me over time.
