And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became bright as light... While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!”
Theologians will tell us that this passage, The Transfiguration, is important because it juxtaposes Jesus with Moses (the law) and Elijah (prophecy). And while those elements are surely important, I think this passage is also meaningful because it gives biblical credence to identity.
Jesus put on a light show and had a literal cloud proclaim who he was. He got a stage show and an MC just to tell his three buddies.
So, if you want a cake, a party, an email, a text message, or a hug, because you are who you are, I think that's pretty modest. And I think that's incredibly fair.
