2.22.24 - Mark 4:31b-32
How can we take one small step today, so small it may seem insignificant in the moment? A step toward personal growth, deeper relationships, mindset shifts, toward dismantling systems, toward justice?
It’s like a mustard seed planted in the ground. The mustard seed is one of the smallest seeds on earth. However, when planted, it comes up and becomes taller than all the garden plants. It grows such large branches that birds can nest in its shade.
In 2021, I burnt out at such a level that it landed me in bed for many months.
Before then, I would take on huge projects, say yes to everything, and try to make massive leaps in my career rather than find comfort in tiny steps or daily habits.
I’d internalized all the messages that our culture tries to cram down our throats about hustling, “going big or going home,” “burning the midnight oil,” or how “no pain, no gain,” will help us to achieve great things, just to name a few.
But in today’s verse, Jesus emphasizes the power of the size of a mustard seed. The idea is countercultural. It’s revolutionary. And it changed my life.
I started taking small daily actions, and slowly I healed. I think the same can be true for anything we do.
How can we take one small step today, so small it may seem insignificant in the moment? A step toward personal growth, deeper relationships, mindset shifts, toward dismantling systems, toward justice?
