Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that moment.
If faith can make you well, lack of faith can make you unwell.
At least that is what we often imply when our theology and faith become toxic. It’s something we often do when we experience people without intimacy.
Jesus’ words here, calling her daughter, establish a different set of norms. Jesus acknowledged that they had forged something together, unique to them, for this moment, for this time, for this place.
Miracles are found in the humble relationship when we reach toward the presence that is God. God names us as kin, as one of the family.
Healing, whatever it looks like, comes through relationships. Often these relationships of choice call us into our common humanity.
How would you change if you saw the people around you as part of a family of choice rather than colleagues, acquaintances, etc.?
