The word that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
There’s broadly two types of prophets among the ancient Hebrews that we know about: listeners and visionaries.
That is, folks who hear God speaking and report what they heard, and those who see a scene play out and report what they saw - each making sure to include an interpretation of what it means.
The skill sets don’t appear to overlap much; prophets are either listeners or visionaries and not usually both.
There was also a geographical division where listeners tend to be northerners from around Samaria, and visionaries tend to be southerners from around Jerusalem, and true to form Isaiah the southerner was one of the latter: someone gifted with visions of what God wanted to do next.
Are you someone who thinks in words (speaking/writing/reading) or in pictures (seeing/painting/photographs/movie clips)? How does that impact your prayer?
Today, look at what mode you’ve usually done prayer and try something in the other mode. For example, if you’re used to reading a Bible verse and speaking a prayer, try coloring with crayons or painting instead.
If you’ve been hoping, like Isaish seems to, for omen-filled visions in your dreams, try automatic writing or repetitious chant instead.
