1.3.24 - Matthew 2:18
Justice. Hope. Compassion. Which of those three can you imagine experiencing the world through today? How will you make the choice to live it when the opportunity arises?
“A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be consoled, because they are no more.”
Wailing and loud lamentation, mothers weeping for her children;
refusing to be consoled, because their children are no more… it could be a biblical text… or the news today.
Over six thousand children have died in the last three months in the same place where Herod massacred children. Bethlehem is now built of rubble and the tears of inconsolable mothers.
I don’t know where was God two thousand years ago when Herrod destroyed the lives of entire families.
And, I don’t know where God has been in the last three months.
Maybe God is in the dreams of parents asking them to go. And all I can do is hope that at least one child made it safely to a place of refuge.
To engage the world can be overwhelming. Most of us don't know, other than empathy with the pain of loss, what it's like to live in war torn areas.
Discipleship today means little without justice, without compassion, without hope.
Which of those three can you imagine experiencing the world through today? How will you make the choice to live it when the opportunity arises?
