Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
The purpose of a guarantee is to help someone feel a sense of security about the future.
When we have a guarantee, we feel less anxious about the decisions we have made because we know that, even if things might not go the way we hoped or planned, we will still be able to partially or, in some cases, totally recover our losses.
The guarantee of the Spirit is more than secure. And, more than serving us in helping recover losses, the guarantee of the Spirit is universally redemptive transforming losses into life.
As seen in the person of Jesus Christ, tragedy is transformed into treasure. This is why the Apostle Paul confidently articulated the security he found in suffering (Romans 8).
Not that we are called to seek out suffering or that suffering even has purpose. But neither should we shrink, for with the guarantee of the Holy Spirit, we are more than conquerors through the One whose Love is eternally secured.
How would you live if you always remembered that there is no loss from which you cannot recover, no tragedy from which you cannot be redeemed?
