12.7.23 - Mark 1:22
Today, try one of two things: invite yourself to speak up when necessary or invite someone else who looks like they are holding back to enter a conversation.
They were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes.
I have these moments where I'm convinced I have no clue what I'm doing, saying, teaching, what have you.
If it comes out of my mouth it must be suspect.
I have an even greater fear that everyone knows and is just too polite to tell me.
It's not true of course. Like each one of us, I know some things. Things I've been taught, things I've learned through experience, things I've just wanted to know.
In this moment of Jesus' life others are astounded at what he knows. They're a little curious by the end of the passage at the power he displays, but it's this moment of being astounded that has me interested.
I wonder where the courage comes from.
I wonder how many times I've shut my mouth when I have something to offer or share out of some misguided anxiety.
What about you? When are there moments you've shut down rather than spoken up? When have you felt shut down when you have something astounding to offer?
Today, try one of two things: invite yourself to speak up when necessary or invite someone else who looks like they are holding back to enter a conversation.
