“God raises up the poor out of the dust and lifts the needy out of the ash heap, to make them sit with princes, even with the princes of Their people. They give the barren woman a dwelling, making her the joyful mother of children.”
I’m sure you’ve heard the very popular saying “Be the hands and feet of Jesus” – implying that we should aspire to act like Christ.
When reading scripture, I like to apply that sentiment as often as possible and with increasing personal responsibility: whatever the Creator does, I should also do.
To fight for those on the fringes, the historically excluded, is something that is resonated in scripture over and over. I think we sometimes believe it’s something that God does – it’s Their domain to change the world.
I prefer to think of it as my pursuit; it’s the only work that can be done on earth and not in heaven. When change comes, I think it will be because we listened and acted faithfully.
Advent is a time of anticipation and preparation. In what areas are you anticipating redemption in our culture? How can you prepare to affect those areas in lieu of awaiting God’s movement?
