They died in faith without having received the promises, but from a distance they saw and greeted them.
This world is full of pain and suffering, injustice and inequity. While it’s not hard for me to imagine a world in which those things don’t exist, I realize the work required to get there will not be completed in my lifetime. That reality can be sobering.
Yet, like those in the passage, there are times when I do believe I am seeing the promises or at least glimmers of them… far in the distance. Small moments, sometimes fleeting. Random acts of kindness. Joy in unexpected places. Small movements toward sustainable change.
I’m encouraged by the reminder that that’s truly all it means to have faith: greeting these glimmers of possibility, even when the fullness of the promise seems distant.
What glimmers of possibility can you greet with intention as you go about your day today? How might you make this an ongoing practice?
