12.27.23 - Luke 2:33
What’s the lesson the universe is asking you to accept and move forward with? How will you take that first step today?
And the child’s parents were amazed at what was being said about him.
When we were parents of younger children, we’d often hear about how nice, kind, and thoughtful our kids were.
We knew they were talking about our kids, we just knew our kids differently. It was always (and still is) a pleasure to hear about our kids from others.
They’ve far outstripped anything we’ve dreamed for them. They’re not just good kids, they’re good people. The kind I’d like to know apart from being our family.
Sometimes we’re surprised by good news. We’re caught off guard by words that challenge the view of ourselves we hold.
At those moments it pays to be flexible. Whether the words are comforting or challenging, it pays to not have such a rigid view of our identities (or the identities of others).
As we all spend time taking stock of the last year, take a moment and be amazed at the change around and within you. It may feel good, bad, or anywhere in between.
The point is not to judge, just to acknowledge that change happens and we have choices and options in how we respond. Jesus’ parents chose to be amazed at what they’re learning. They didn’t deny, waver, or correct. They accepted and moved forward.
What’s the lesson the universe is asking you to accept and move forward with? How will you take that first step today?
