1.2.24 - Matthew 2:16
As you go through your day today, maybe it's your first day of work in the new year, look for those moments when you can wear your peacefulness fully and proudly.
When Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, he was infuriated, and he sent and killed all the children in and around Bethlehem who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had learned from the magi
The Magi are one of the prime examples of two things: how to use your privilege for good and how to change history through civil disobedience.
They used the information they had, not to gain money or political power, but to go worship the heavenly child. And when Herod asked them to report back on the whereabouts of the newborn Jesus, they took a different way home.
Civil disobedience, therefore, is in the DNA of our faith tradition.
Using the way of creativity instead of the way of violence is our generational wisdom. Using our privilege for the flourishing of the whole creation is our spiritual inheritance. Infuriating oppressors with the way of peace is our family specialty.
Being good at recognizing your moment is a talent in and of itself.
As you go through your day today, maybe it's your first day of work in the new year, look for those moments when you can wear your peacefulness fully and proudly.
