“and they shall name him ‘Emmanuel,’ which means, ‘God is with us.’”
A friend of mine often talks about the Incarnation as God’s “coming out” which is a meaningful metaphor for me.
For LGBTQ+ folks, we often come out, not as an act of bravery, but because we need people to see us and know us. We want our outside to reflect the wonder of what is happening on the inside.
In the Incarnation, God couldn’t stand being so misrepresented and so inaccurately portrayed in the world any longer, so they came out. As Jesus.
Where do you feel that God is misrepresented in your religious spaces? How might you bring a little bit of Incarnation?
(During Advent we'll be doing things a little differently. Our frames will be provided by five members of the leadership team at Juniper Formation.)
