12.21.23 - Psalm 118:22
What holds you back today? What cracks or chips or worn places in your life make you experience yourself as less than? What's one imperfection you can celebrate today?
The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
We like to Jesus up this passage whenever we hear it.
What I mean by that is that we like to intuit, insert, imply that this passage somehow, someway points to Jesus' birth, coming ministry, or death.
I read this passage differently. In it is experience the importance of our imperfections and differences. I think of how we navigate the world with disabilities, traumas, genetic inheritances, and other things that make us who we are -- imperfect.
It's the imperfections that society, that "those in the know," reject that make us perfect to build foundations upon.
It puts in perspective theologies about soul-building and attainment of perfection. You're good enough as is, as an imperfect stone. And, when you're rejected by "those in the know," you're to remember that you're worthy of building a foundation upon.
The cracks and chips in our life story add character to the foundation that supports the building above. Don't hide your imperfections, celebrate them like the Psalmist.
What holds you back today? What cracks or chips or worn places in your life make you experience yourself as less than? What's one imperfection you can celebrate today?
