Because they were elders of the people and judges, the assembly believed them and condemned her to death. Then Susanna cried out with a loud voice and said, “O eternal God, you know what is secret and are aware of all things before they come to be; you know that these men have given false evidence against me. And now I am to die, though I have done none of the wicked things that they have charged against me!” God heard her cry.
God’s hearing isn’t the same as ours.
Whether we hear speech, read sign language, or receive body language, hearing for us is often a passive receiving of information.
In the Bible, when someone cries for justice, God’s hearing is a responsive action.
God hearing Susanna’s cry was God stirring up the Holy Spirit of Daniel, who shouted as Susanna was being led to execution, “I want no part in shedding this woman’s blood!”
God hearing Susanna’s cry was giving Daniel authority over the elders to reveal their lies and turn over the judgment of the people.
God hearing Susanna’s cry was God responding in action to save Susanna’s life.
How do you hear other peoples’ cries for justice?
Today, consider what the Holy Spirit is stirring up in you. What responsive action can you take?
