Galatians 4:7 Doesn’t that privilege of intimate conversation with God make it plain that you are not a slave, but a child? And if you are a child, you’re also an heir, with complete access to the inheritance.
Suppose you were to inherit something from a relative, but it came with stipulations.
First, you had to prove that you’re a rightful heir. And, second, you had to respond to your inheritance with generosity. How would you prove you’re a worthy heir?
To inherit means to receive an irrevocable gift. It emphasizes the special relationship between a benefactor and their recipients.
We are all heirs of God. Not heirs to what God has, but recipients of access to a relationship with God.
Just like parents try to match age and levels of responsibility, so too does God expect certain things as we mature. As we grow God expects us to pray like, think like, love like, and begin to forgive like Jesus.
How does being an heir change the way you see yourself in relationship to God? How does it change your actions?
