“I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old, things that we have heard and known, that our ancestors have told us. We will not hide them from their children; we will tell to the coming generation.
As a parent, I am often torn between hiding the truths of the world from my children and the call to prepare them so that they grow to fight the powers, too. (Yes, I’m quoting Brandi Carlisle. I can’t help myself.)
As we anticipate the celebration of the coming of Christ (the poster child of a baby destined to fight the powers), I wonder what are the parables, sayings, and teachings that I carry?
We perhaps can’t each hold everything, we need our collective, community wisdom. What wisdom do you hold in your experience? What do you feel called on to teach the next generation?
Think about a simple commitment today. What's one thing you can teach, share, or show someone that will help them move through their own life differently or with purpose?
