“For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God, … in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its enslavement to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.”
I have a friend who likes to remind me (and by “remind,” I mean “make fun of”) that I am a yearner, that I navigate the world seeing what could be, what ought to be. I guess that must be a part of why I relate to Advent so strongly every year. I feel the need for incarnation in the midst of our enslavement to decay.
I love that as we begin this Advent, our scriptures start with the Creation passages where “the earth was formless and void” and God calls it all into existence. And then there is this one that recognizes after creation, how we live in chaos and decay and yearn for our new revelations. Where are you experiencing chaos and decay? Where do you find yourself waiting?
What does it look like to commit to waiting in the midst of chaos or decay today?
(During Advent we'll be doing things a little differently. Our frames will be provided by five members of the leadership team at Juniper Formation. Learn more here.)
