12. 28.23 - Isaiah 40:4
Look for the moments today when you're able to move easily from one place to the next (mentally, emotionally, physically). Mark it and come back before you fall asleep so your mind might rest tonight.
Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain.
I don’t know if you’ve ever driven through the plains, but there’s not much too them. The homogeneity of the landscape is meditative (and sleep inducing). While those who live there can attest to the excitement, from the outside the plains are peaceful.
The amount of effort it takes to traverse them is nothing like a mountain or even a hill. And, if we take into account the landscape of Israel, a plain would probably be welcome to many people. Especially those who often find themselves wandering or in exile.
I often find myself looking for those easy moments as well. The times when life doesn’t feel so hard or scary or painful. We all need those times and spaces. And, we all need to take advantage of them when they arrive.
A moment’s peace, a chance to rest, an easy walk to our destination. Our bodies, minds, and spirits need those moments, even if they are few or far between.
Before you go to bed tonight, take a moment and search your day for an easy moment. Look for the time when you were able to walk without growing weary.
Now, mark that moment as a place of peace and have it be the last thing you remember before falling asleep.
