When I look up at your skies, at what your fingers made— the moon and the stars that you set firmly in place— what are human beings that you are mindful of them; what are human beings that you pay attention to them?
One of my favorite spiritual concepts is that we are made in the image of The Creator and that means our image also contains the act of creating. We are tiny creators, creator juniors. Our inheritance is the ability to create, and that makes our creations grandchildren.
If you don’t consider yourself a “creative person” then that idea may seem laughable, even intangible. Maybe you don’t think you’re artistic or you can’t hold a tune, but do you garden? Do you engage the ingredients of creation and participate in the cycle of life? Do you love to cook? Do you enjoy re-arranging the gifts of creation into nourishment? Even if you’re not good at it – it’s still creating.
I heard someone speak on worship once and they posited that anything that reveals the identity and nature of the Creator is worship. If we are made in the same image, then our act of creating is worship. Your breath and the words you speak are a creation. Your very energy is creation. You can’t help it, Junior.
What does it look like to commit to being a co-creator today? What's one small thing you can do to honor the image of co-creating in your corner of the world?
