He replied, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise."
This portion of the passion narrative where Jesus is crucified with two criminals.
Jesus offers direct access to salvation to someone that has been convicted of a crime. The reality and identity of Christ was revealed in the extension of grace in this moment of pain.
The criminal was given an invitation to paradise… into the comfort of God’s presence. This demonstration shows us the extent that Jesus will go to offer salvation and grace. It extended even to those who we don’t think are worthy or deserving.
Christ demonstrates concern for the broken-hearted, for marginalized communities experiencing pain. If Jesus can offer this grace, surely we can find forgiveness in our hearts for those who wrong us.
Forgiveness and grace are about relationship. They're about how we conduct ourselves with and around one another.
Forgiveness requires dialogue and an agreement toward change. Grace allows us to expand our way of experiencing the world to consider forgiveness. What's one small way you might embrace grace today? How might that extend to your relationships as well?
