11.20.23 - Psalm 61:1-3
On a scale of 1 to 10; 1 being snuggled up and 10 being bottom of the grand canyon; where do you find yourself in relationship to God today? How do you want to invite God to listen to you, even here?
Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the end of the earth I call to you, when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you are my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.
A Psalm of David, who is seeking assurance of God’s protection.
It isn’t a entirely skewed desire, whether king or peasant, we’re all longing for protection, right?
David seems to be calling for this assurance from a far off place with a fainting heart: “the end of the earth.”
A good place to start is David’s request to be led to the rock that is higher than him. No matter our status or power capacity, asking God to lead us to a higher source of stability, shelter and anchor is always a heathy starting point.
If we feel farthest from God and weakest we’ve ever been, asking God to lead us to a source more powerful than ourselves is best.
Where is the edge of your ability today? How can you ask God to lead you beyond your self and plug into sustaining grace today?
