Malachi 4:1
See, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble; the day that comes shall burn them up, says the LORD of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.
I wish I always wished good things for everyone. But whenever I see unjust people win elections or see how the radicalization of politics is leading to violence, I put on my Malachi hat on.
I'm not even sure if I believe in hell, but sometimes, I hope there is one.
Prophets projected their hopes and their frustrations in their writings and put words in God’s mouth. If we are honest, we all do.
But sometimes, imagining an ending where evil doesn’t win, and evildoers are punished instead of rewarded for their actions is the only way to cope with an oppressive reality. So today, hell can exist. Tomorrow, I will go back to good wishes.
It's okay to feel anger, books of the Bible seem devoted to it. Righteous anger directed at injustice is a call we all should feel.
When you encounter something that makes you angry today, how will you commit to redirecting that anger toward solving injustice?
