1.11.24 - Psalm 71:17
What are some of the inherited ways you experience God? What are some of experiences you've had that challenge those inheritances? How might you honor both today?
Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
I grew up in church. From Sunday school to youth group to music ministry, I was super involved, as were many of my family members.
Through these experiences and family, I had my earliest encounters with God. But as I look back, I realize the “God” I met when I was young is not the “God” I know and love today.
I never intentionally set out on what many would characterize as a deconstruction process.
Nevertheless through continued encounters with people, engagement of various texts, general life experiences, and sometimes even silence, my conceptualization of God evolved and expanded. And it continues to do so.
In turn, the way I am able to see myself, others, and the world continues to evolve and expand too.
I hope and believe that the revelation of God’s godness will continue to unfold. I pray that my heart continues to remain open to encounter it.
What are some of the inherited ways you experience God? What are some of experiences you've had that challenge those inheritances? How might you honor both today?
