11.03.23 - Matthew 25:45-46
What's one compassionate act you can contribute to the world this weekend?
Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ And these will go away into eternal punishment but the righteous into eternal life.
For those steeped in Western Christianity, especially Protestants, this passage can sound the alarm on our fundamental theology of salvation by grace through faith–how is it that people are saved by the actions done or undone in their lives?
Scripture teaches us that salvation is accomplished by Christ, actuating God’s grace and forgiveness, yet our actions do have consequence, and our faith is authenticated by how we live.
We cannot determine the nature of God’s eternal salvation, yet we can access the light of salvation in our present life through our reflection of God’s heart: love expressed in compassion and justice.
How can you join in the work of compassion and justice in your community, and our world?
