10.9.23 - Matthew 18:10
This project started with wonder. We wondered what changes if we built habits of faith every day. Wonder is where this project should always begin and end. What wonder is calling you today?
Take care that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I tell you, in heaven their angels continually see the face of God.
How interesting that Elijah the one of the greatest of prophets was told that God's face was too powerful for him to witness.
Yet, here is this story about children whose 'angels' constantly gaze upon what Elijah wasn't allowed to experience.
What is it about children that makes for such a powerful image about faith?
I think of my own kids, messy, unruly, creative, compassionate, anxious, loving, and I could go on. They're a mix of wandering wonder and a bull in a china shop.
I wonder what we get wrong about this faith experiment. What have we lost along the way that made this endeavor so serious?
I think of my faith today, often in tatters as I look around the world, and it can feel joyless, rote, and over-thought.
I miss the wonder of mythology, the potential of story, the connection of laughter.
What's something that makes you smile, no matter the circumstance you're in? What's one way you can reclaim the feeling of wonder today?
