10.4.23 - 1 Samuel 27
When have you found yourself living outside your values, maybe causing harm? Take a moment and remember what or who called you back, and let that what or who rest with your next few breaths.
David said in his heart, “I shall certainly perish one day by the hand of Saul; there is nothing better for me than to escape to the land of the Philistines; then Saul will despair of seeking me any longer within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.”
I made a huge location change in 1998. I had been through a church mandated course of conversion therapy, which caused me a lot of trauma.
I knew that the parts of me they named sinful remained, and there was not one safe person to turn to.
I took the first escape offered in the form of a mission to another country. I, like David, left out of fear and started a campaign of harm.
Being a missionary on behalf of a church I did not align with was a time of great loss. I said things I did not believe. I did things that I now know were harmful.
When my fear and trauma met, they pushed me into a season of harm. I find healing now in naming these experiences that took me to places not my own.
When have you found yourself living outside your values, potentially causing harm? Take a moment and remember what or who called you back.
As you remember, take a moment to let that what or who rest with the next few breaths.
