10.17.23 - Revelation 21:2-4
Respect over dominion, care over control. The former are acts of faith, the latter acts of fear. What's one way you can choose the former over the latter today?
And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them and be their God.”
This is not the ‘rapture’ I was told to expect.
According to John the seer, at the end of all things, the believers’ souls do not fly up to the heavens to live with God there.
Instead, the New Jerusalem descends. God comes down here. Not in the way God joined us before, not visiting as Jesus, but here to stay. To dwell permanently with humanity.
There is no grand plan of ascension through righteousness. The prize of faith is not escape. It never is, was, or will be.
When God gets what God wants, the party will be taking place here.
Which means here deserves so much more of our care, stewardship, and attention than we are giving it.
When you pray today, look down and feel awe for the ground you’re on. It is so beautiful and precious as to host the City of God.
Respect over dominion, care over control. How might you choose the former over the latter today?
